Marysville re-opening is a tribute to teamwork

January 17, 2013: On the morning of Jan. 7, Marysville Principal Lana Penley stood outside the freshly painted front doors of her rebuilt school and greeted students and families who had started gathering long before. Then she rang a big, silver bell, welcoming and celebrating the students, families and Marysville staff after three years away from their fire-damaged school.
From the moment fire broke out Nov. 10, 2009, the Marysville story has been a triumph of teamwork: from Lana and her staff moving quickly to get the students safely out of the building, to the nearby Holgate Library throwing open its doors to take the students in, to the immense logistical task of turning the closed Rose City Park School into a temporary Marysville in the space of five days, to the patience and perseverance of the students, families and staff as we worked to rebuild their school.
The Marysville grand re-opening Thursday Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. is a chance to celebrate the Marysville staff, families and community as well as our PPS team, contractors and such outstanding partners as Nike, the Portland Fire Bureau, Fred Meyer, Starbucks, the Portland Business Alliance, Powell Books, Umpqua Bank, Hands on Greater Portland and Schoolhouse Supplies.
Thanks to all of you, Marysville stands tall once again.
