Committed to improvement
September 26, 2011: Recently, Portland School Board auditor Richard Tracy checked back on the extent to which Portland Public Schools has followed through on previous audit recommendations. These audits addressed key issues such as instructional time, charter schools, performance management and serving English Language Learners.
According to auditor Tracy, we have put in place (or are in progress on) 94 percent of his recommendations. As a school district, we need to foster a culture of ongoing learning and improvement. I appreciate the auditor’s reviews of our programs and his findings and recommendations. Like the input from our families, community members, educators and other staff, this is vital feedback that helps us improve the quality of education for our students.
