Welcome to 2nd grade! We will be learning a lot of new things this year. In addition to reading, writing and math, we will be learning about weather, frogs, and plants.

The best way to improve reading is to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! Your child will be bringing home a book to read every night Monday through Thursday. This book will be at their individual reading level. Your child needs to read the book for 20 minutes, have an adult sign their reading log and bring the reading bag back to school EVERY day!

Our class is very lucky this year. We get to be one of the few classes in the district to pilot a new math program. We will be working with a program called Bridges. There will be lots of fun and exciting lessons for us to do to learn our math skills.

One math skill that most kids tend to struggle with is memorizing addition and subtraction facts. Your child will be expected to have all addition and subtraction facts to 20 memorized by the end of the year. Doing flashcard or worksheet practice at home with your child will be very beneficial.
