Wilson High School is...

A comprehensive four year public high school serving the southwestern quadrant of Portland, Oregon, Wilson focuses on academic excellence, critical thinking, development of lifelong learning skills and high expectations for all students while fostering self-esteem, personal responsibility and self-discipline.

Programs target student proficiency as set forth by the Oregon State System of Higher Education, and are exemplified by interdisciplinary curriculum and instruction, cooperative learning, multicultural education, inclusion and collaboration.

A broad range of electives is offered; students may choose further electives and specialized offerings by enrolling in part-time cooperative programs available through high schools, colleges and universities.

Opportunities to learn outside the classroom include Multnomah ESD Outdoor School Program, apprenticeships in science and engineering, and many programs at area universities. Emphasis is placed on academics -- enrollment in English, foreign language, mathematics, science and social studies is high.

Graduation requirements may be met in regular or accelerated courses. Approximately 200 rich and varied courses included in the school's offerings.

Wilson offers a Student Assistant Program involving approximately 250 students; assignments include tutors, cadet teaching and teaching, lab, technical and clerical assistants.

Woodrow Wilson High School encourages family/community involvement as an essential component of student success. Families and community members help coordinate school activities, volunteer in classrooms and study centers, and accompany students on field trips. Families offer support through PTA, Parent Connection, volunteers and Booster Club. Wilson Site Council (15 members) consists of teachers, administrators, parents, community members and students.

Wilson features an outstanding physical plant: modern brick building with three floors and an elevator on over 20 acres of a park-like setting; including wide halls, spacious cafeteria and gymnasium, auditorium, music facilities, choir and drama rooms, lighted football stadium, swimming pool, courtyard, tennis courts and handicapped accessibility.

Counselors monitor academic development and attendance, foster self-esteem and cultural awareness, and enhance success of minority student population.

The library features Macintosh and IBM-compatible computers that are connected to the Internet. State-of-the-art computer technology is readily availble in publications, science, library, business, math and writing labs. Special Education programs help assure that students have opportunities and assistance to maximize learning.
