February & March
Block 1 - Feb. 6 & 7: Discuss Napoleon brochure. Due next time we meet. Review final exam questions. Journal: What makes someone a good storyteller? Describe someone you know who is a good storyteller & explain why. Discuss & put storytelling techniques on the board. Listen to a "Moth" story from NPR. Discuss if the story had any of the elements that we brainstormed.
Block 2 - Feb. 8 & 9: Read "The Jacket" as an example of narrative writing. Listen to another Moth story. Go over framework of a narrative. Journal on (4) prompts from the handout list of prompts. Share one of your stories with a partner. Complete the Brainstorm Handout for homework.
Block 3 - Feb. 10 & 13: Read "7th Grade" and "The Bully." Both are examples of narrative writing. Stamp your Brainstorm homework. Go over leads/introductions. Re-read the examples & discuss their intros. Are they effective? Why or why not? Write two leads for your narrative paper. Rough draft due the 16th or 17th.
Block 4 - Feb. 14 & 15: Discuss Book of Choice Unit. Go to library for Book Talk. Check out books - bring your book to class every day!!!! Silent reading time.
Block 5 - Feb. 16 & 17: Rough draft due! Peer edit. Final draft due Feb. 23rd or 24th. Silent reading.
Block 6 - Feb. 21 & 22: Go over Book of Choice response questions. Silent reading & response time. Discuss Big Book Project. Review plot diagram. Read children's story & complete plot diagram. Begin working on plot diagram for your book.
Block 7 - Feb. 23 & 24: Silent reading & response time.
Block 8 - Feb. 27 & 28: Silent reading & response time.
Block 9 - Feb. 29 & March 1: Silent reading & response time.
