Attention 8th Grade Parents:  Madison HS is holding a Q&A session with its Principal on Wednesday, February 15 from 6:30-7:30pm.

Vernon School welcomes three new teachers:  Marcy Sullwold, Literacy Specialist;  Jinnie Kim, Music; and Kristin Havermann, half time Special Education. Special thanks to Vernon PTA and East Portland Rotary for funding Ms. Kim's position.

We have recently been sharing the news of one of our biggest accomplishments of the year.  Vernon received authorization as an International Baccalaureate Programme school in the primary grades (PK-5).  Teachers, students, and support staff have worked collaboratively to accomplish this goal.  Parents have shown great enthusiasm this year, and we've hosted two IB parent meetings to discuss what we can do from this point forward.

A core group of parents and volunteers are working on art projects in individual classes in preparation for our 2nd annual Auction.  This year's auction will take place on Friday, March 2 at the North Star Ballroom.  It's a great way to support Art and Music education at Vernon School.

I would like to make sure families are aware of the generosity of two of our partners in education.  East Portland Rotary donated $12,500 to help fund a half-time Music teacher at Vernon.  Vernon School PTA donated $13,500 for a total of $26,000.  This is just one example of the support our school is receiving.

We are extremely grateful for the support we receive from our parents, volunteers, and community partners.  Working together, we are doing great things.  You are appreciated.
