International Baccalaureate

Vernon is in the midst of becoming an International Baccalaureate school, along with several other high performing K-8 schools in PPS. IB is an educational movement that is taking place all across the world, and it is exciting for the Vernon learning community to participate.

In order to be a recognized IB school, the Vernon teachers are spending considerable amounts of time being trained in the IB approach to learning, planning for a more inquiry based approach to teaching, and reflecting on how we can use IB to help our students develop the attitudes and the skills that will prepare them for a lifetime of learning. IB will be a school wide commitment, reflected in all parts of the learning day.

The International Baccalaureate Organization Mission Statement is as follows:

The IBO aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end, the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessments.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
