It has been a fun start to the new school year. Hopefully you are able to check your kids progress on snap grades.Email me if you need a password.Algebra has finished Chapter 7 (linear) with everyones favorite ,simplifying radicals, thrown in. Geometry is taking a test this Thursday 10/8 on Chapter 2 . We are moving right along because the later chapters take more time.

On a fun note, "Survivor Harsman Style" is in full action. Warm-ups become challenges and not getting voted out requires brains, social skills ,a bit of luck and strong alliances. This group is having a good time with this. Ask you kid about this if they have not already told you.

I would like to meet with all of you parents at parent teacher conferences. If you have trouble getting a slot let me know and we will figure out a time for you.

I feel priveledged and honored to be working with your kids here at Sellwood. Until next time.

Tutoring, survivor and more

Just and update as to what is going on in Algebra B and Geometry. We are having a lot of fun in our Algebra warmups based on the reality show "Survivor". It is down to the final people left in the game and should end with a final survivor in a few weeks. Some of the challenges have certainly been math but others are just fun challenges ( not that math is'nt fun) . It has created a buzz around the 8th grade. Ask your student about their experience.

In Algebra we are in the unit on quadratics. We are learning factoring and it is taking some getting used to for this new type of math. In Geometry we are studying similiarity and will have a chapter 3 test on Friday the 23rd of October.

I am setting up a tutoring program with Cleveland H.S. students to help Mondays and Thursdays from 4-5 in my room. They are excited to come and help and I need a commitment from some 8th graders who need and want the help to show up on one of those days every week. They do not have to stay the whole time but I do not want a H.S. student driving over here for nothing. Let me know if you want your student to be signed up.
