In addition to using a textbook, Spanish is taught using student-centered games, songs, skits and music. Students work equally in all the communication areas: reading, writing, speaking and listening.

- Ask and answer questions regarding age, past times, school schedule and daily routine
- Name and list vocabulary of common everyday items (colors, objects in school and the house, days of the week, months, weather, etc.)
- Use numbers in telling time, bartering in a market and saying phone numbers
- Order and discuss food in a restaurant
- Ask and give directions
- Locate all the Spanish speaking countries on a map and identify several facts about each
- Identify, compare and contrast common cultural practices among Spanish speaking countries with their own practices and traditions.
- Learn about and experience some of the celebrations that are practiced such as Day of the Dead, Cinco de Mayo and the holidays that our cultures have in common.
