Why I Teach: I like helping children learn. I learn new things from them at the same time. I enjoy the relationships I have with them as individuals and as a group. I especially enjoy working with students who come from different countries and cultures. I learn many different perspectives from them. I also enjoy the creativity that teaching includes.
What I Believe: I believe all children have an innate curiosity about their world and want to learn. It is our job as teachers to create an environment that stimulates and encourages their learning. It is also our responsibility to guide students in their education, presenting curriculum that is at their developmental level, and that helps them achieve benchmarks in all subject areas.
My Favorite Things: I enjoy hiking, skiing, canoeing, reading, writing, and spending time in Nature.
How I help every student succeed: In all ELD classes I include speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary-building, and grammar activities. In my intervention reading groups and my ELD classes, I try to include readings and study that is culturally relevant to my students. I keep in close contact with the students’ classroom teachers to work with them to help these students reach benchmarks. I encourage my students to believe in themselves – that their future is open to possibilities – and that school will help them achieve their goals.
