Why I Teach: Being a teacher is something I was born to do, and I have always enjoyed working with children. I love seeing students grow over time, building their confidence and helping them see their potential. I cannot imagine having a different career.

What I Believe: I help build student’s background knowledge and teach them strategies to not only think critically about what we study, but also to apply their understanding to the world around them. I want students to understand there is a connection between what we do in school and their own lives. I also teach them that learning about and sharing their cultures is vital to help everyone understand different perspectives. I provide students various opportunities for sharing their knowledge, from individual research projects to group work. I hope to foster a love of learning in each student.

My Favorite Things: I am married and have two young daughters, so I spend a lot of time with friends and family. We love doing family activities, such as playing games, going to the park, and taking vacations. I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, and cooking and baking.

P.S.: I am thinking more critically about my own teaching and the impact it has on my students. I am more cognizant of how culture plays a role in learning and am making a point of having discussions about their own lives and how I can make my teaching more culturally relevant. I believe when students know people care about them and where they come from, they are more vested in their own education.
