Why I Teach: I love teaching because I know I have made and will continue to make a positive difference in the lives of students both in and out of the classroom. I love teaching World History and U.S. History and watching the students making connections to their lives. They are often shocked and surprised when they learn about the history of society on a global level. They start developing a deep sense of empathy, understanding, and compassion towards people who were and are being treated unfairly worldwide.
What I Believe: I believe in order for optimal learning to take place, students need to be respectful towards their peers as well as teachers and staff. When there is a safe classroom environment, students are more likely to take risks with their critical thinking, collaboration, and sharing. Discovering what the students are passionate about with their learning is thrilling as a teacher. I believe that there is richness in learning about the cultures that the students bring to us in the classroom.
My Favorite Things: I enjoy spending my time with my daughter and family. I get a lot of inspiration from living on a farm and raising chickens. I enjoy the outdoors and go camping every summer at the Oregon Coast. I love to cook and entertain family and friends.
How I help every student succeed: I set my standards high and expect that each and every student will reach their highest potential. I teach my curriculum with rigor and hold the students accountable by teaching them that they are responsible for their learning. With the rigor, I try to make each lesson as fun and interesting as possible. Through my mentoring class, students receive one-on-one support in areas where they need the extra help. My door is open before school and during lunch if a student needs me.
