Hello to current and potential Scott School families!
My name is Kate McCartney, and I am the Learning Center teacher here at Scott. I work with students in kindergarten through 8th grade in reading, writing, math, behavior, social skills, and organization/study skills. I manage the plans and programs for students with a variety of educational disabilities and work together with classroom teachers to help students find success in all settings here at Scott. In Room 301, students work in small groups at their instructional level to make progress on their individualized academic goals.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself as a teacher: I graduated from the University of Oregon in 1999 with a B.S. in Educational Studies and again in 2000 with a Masters of Education. I am in my 13th year of teaching and have experience in both special education and the general education classroom as a 2nd, 4th and 5th grade teacher. I taught for 8 years in Juneau, Alaska, for 3 years in nearby Centennial School District, and now this is my 2nd year here in Portland Public Schools at Scott School. I am passionate about working with each student/family individually in order to maximize growth and learning for each child.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself as a person: My husband and I decided to move back to Oregon in 2008 in order to be closer to familyand. I have two bright & active boys, one in second grade and one in kindergarten. I am an active parent at Creston School, and am currently planning their annual Spring carnival. In my spare time (what little I have!) I love to camp, hike, walk the dog and ride bikes with my family. I am grateful to have a full life with family, work and friends!
