Why I Teach: I enjoy interacting with children. It really gives me a thrill when I see my children grasp a new concept whether it is in mathematics, writing, or reading. Also I love empowering young children to see themselves as the future of our world. My heart rejoices when I hear my students dreaming high about their future and picturing themselves as agents of change for a better future.
What I Believe: I truly believe that ALL children can learn, and that it is my job to find the key to open each individual child's mind. I hold high expectations for all my students regardless of their social constructs. I strive to meet each individual student where they are at academically and bring them up to their fullest potential.
My Favorite Things: I love spending time with my family and extended family. I am married and I am the proud mother of two wonderful children, Julia 20 and Javier 15. I also am the sister of nine brothers and sisters, so my extended family is amazingly large. As a family, we spend a large part of our time celebrating family and religious traditions. During my free time I enjoy exercising, cooking, reading, and growing house plants.
How I help every student succeed: I am constantly crafting my daily lesson plans to meet each individual student's academic needs. I focus on equity and not equality. This means that some of my students need and require a different input to produce the same output or result. As a teacher, I am continuously reflecting on my actions, approaches, and resources necessary to improve academic results for all my students while also accelerating results for my most under-served students.
