Harvey Scott School is a K-8 school serving approximately 500 students. We are located at 6700 NE Prescott in NE Portland. Our school serves part of the Roseway, Concordia and Cully neighborhoods. Our attendance borders extend out to the Portland airport to the north, Sandy Blvd to the south, 82nd Street to the East and 57th Ave to the west.
Our student body is highly diverse. OUr student demographics is broken down as 45% Latino, 17% Asian, 13% Black, 23% White and 2% Native American. In addition, approximately 50% of our students speak a language other than English as their first language. The predominant native language of our second language learners is Spanish but we also have Somali, Vietnemese, and Kmer speakers. To recognize this great diversity and the value of bilingualism we offer Spanish for native speakers and Spanish for non-native speakers to our mid-level students.
We have begun to focus the school into a highly academically centered environment. Everything we do as a staff will begin to move us towards becoming such an environment.
