Theater at Roseway Heights
|
The Roseway Heights Artists-In-Residence program includes a theater teacher/director who produces classroom plays for grades 3 – 5, an annual middle school production, and after school classes through the SUN program for grades K-8.
School day programs guarantee that all students get their chance “in the spotlight” and an introduction to the discipline, collaboration and creativity of the theater. Building literary as well as performance skills, 3rd graders perform variations on classic fairy tales, 4th graders’ plays are tied to their Oregon History curriculum, and 5th graders cap their theater experience with condensed, original language versions of Shakespeare.
Recent highlights include As You Like It, Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the 5th grades, To Oregon and Loo-Wit, the Fire Keeper for 4th graders, and Robin Hood and Puss In Boots for the 3rd graders.
Middle schoolers have the opportunity to audition for an after school production. Last year they presented Promenade, a modern comedy set in a typical middle school.
This year’s middle school production will be Arlecchino and the City of Love, a zany comedy in the style of Commedia dell’Arte. Performances are scheduled for November 3 and 4, 2011, at 1:10 & 7:00pm.
All Performances of are free and open to the communtiy.
Roseway Heights SUN program offers after school classes in theater games and basic performance skills for grades k-8 on a rotating basis, and improvisation is offered in conjunction with Saturday Academy.
