Family & Community
Nike Greene is a graduate of George Fox University with her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is an Alumnus of RHS, a neighborhood resident and a strong community advocate. Her work at Roosevelt is based on the belief that parents and families are a very important part of a child's education and this must be recognized and included in a student’s educational journey.
During a recent Parent Campus Day, the following question arose; “How can we, as parents, help improve RHS?”
"This question is essential for Roosevelt to hear because we are systemically focused and understand the significance of meeting the needs of the entire student.", replies Nike. "Our students do not operate in a world of their own. Systemically speaking our students have developed their attachment style, world view, and culture, initially from their family. This is their immediate, personal and local context which they pull from on a daily basis. What an enormous opportunity for us to have a peak into the lives of our students through the eyes of their parents. This view opens up our perspective and creates multiple opportunities on how we can meet the students and families academic, emotional, social and cultural needs."
Nike's goal is to help create a family-friendly school climate. This is accomplished in cooperation with the principal, teachers, parent organizations, and other staff.

Technology Workshop I
Facilitator: Paul Gouveia
Basic Computer skill training
What an amazing workshop day. As the parents
arrived, their anticipation filled the room with excitement. The mobile cart sat quietly behind the tables as introductions were made. Parents shared about their current level of technology access and skill. As we distributed the MAC laptops the workshop immediately transformed into a phenomenal learning experience for everyone in the room including our facilitators.
The workshop covered Basic computer skills, searching the internet , Microsoft Office and discussions around our new EdBox. Next week we will continue into Workshop II, which will include EdBox and email training.
Parent quotes:
· “I don't have a computer at home.”
· “I have a dinosaur computer at home and really slow internet!”
· “I want to be able to support my daughters homework.”
· “Can you teach us Facebook, so we can keep our kids safe?”
· “This was great, thanks Paul.”
· “I want to be able to know what my son is looking at on the computer, that’s why I am here.”
Once again, Rider Nation we have expanded our community of achievement. We are intentionally impacting and equipping our families with tools for success.
Thank you Paul Gouveia & Francisco Hernandez for helping make this workshop a great success for our families.
