Rigler's Code of Dress

In 2005, Rigler families voted to introduce a code of dress for students. This code was approved by the Portland school board. It is intended to ensure that students focus on learning; provide a common standard of dress that crosses economic boundaries; and unify the vibrant and varied student and cultural groups that attend Rigler.

Our students wear:

  • A navy blue, light blue, or white shirt with a collar.
  • Khaki or navy blue bottoms (pants, skirts, jumper, shorts, capris).
  • Female students may wear a blue plaid skirt or jumper.
  • Parents may purchase the items from any store they choose, as long as the clothes meet the standards listed above.

 RIGLER’S CODE OF DRESS

Dress for Success!

Every Student—Every Day

Rigler Students Wear:

· A plain NAVY BLUE, LIGHT BLUE or WHITE shirt with a collar, such as a polo, blouse or dress shirt. Long or short sleeves are acceptable. If the weather is cold, students may wear a sweater with a collar, a turtleneck in navy blue, light blue or white, or a plain hoody in navy blue, light blue, khaki or white .

On free dress days students must follow PPS dress code; clothes may not be revealing.

Shirts must be clean and fit appropriately.

· KHAKI or NAVY BLUE bottoms—pants, capris, shorts, “skorts,” jumpers, and skirts are acceptable. Female students may choose to wear a blue plaid skirt or jumper. Lower garments should be clean and fit appropriately.

· Blue jeans are not permitted.

· Shoes are at the parent/guardian’s discretion—they should be comfortable, suitable for the weather, and appropriate for running and playing. NO THONGS/FLIP-FLOPS, SHOES WITH HEELS, OPEN-TOED SHOES, “HEELYS” OR STRAPLESS CLOGS ARE PERMITTED.

· Jackets and coats are at the parent/guardian’s discretion. They should be suitable for the weather, clean, and fit appropriately. Jackets and hats are not to be worn inside the school building or classroom during school hours. If students are cold, they may wear a  solid navy blue, light blue, khaki or white sweatshirt, sweater or hoody in the classroom. Leggings or tights are acceptable beneath skirts; leggings may not be worn as pants.

New students have ONE WEEK to outfit themselves according to the Code of Dress—after this time, dress code enforcement will come into effect.
