Hello and thanks for reading! Each week, Panther Tracks is packed with news about
upcoming events and opportunities to help improve and support the Rigler community.

Parents picking up children from after-school SUN activities please keep
our students safe by using the main entrance only. SUN is also recruiting
volunteers to help after school by engaging and monitoring students during
Extended Day activities like supper, recess, homework, and class time. Please
contact Volunteer Coordinator Hayley Weed 503.916.6152 or hweed@pps.net

The library is open after-school but, to make sure students are safe, K-1
grade students must be accompanied by a parent and/or older sibling and 2-6
grade students need a note from their parents. Thank you for your cooperation!

Help us recognize and reward positive behavior. We are in need of
donations for our fabulous "Treasure Chest" (sports items, school supplies,
crafts, toys, etc.). We use it every Monday, and we are running low!! Drop off
donations in a box near the entrance to the office. Thanks! Ruth Tucker, Student
Management Specialist.

If you received an English Handbook and Calendar, please make sure
you’ve also received the lime green calendar replacement sheets from the office.
This packet has newer information than the original calendar sent home.

The PTA Clothing Closet is in dire need of boys’ pants in sizes 4-10. For more
information about volunteering at the closet, or to get a tax reimbursement form
for your donation, please ask at the main office for Emily Wilson. Thank You!
Important Dates – Mark Your Calendars!
Monday, October 17
: Keep an eye out for the Rigler Site Council nomination ballots
that will be coming home with students. Please read the personal statements of each
nominee, all of who are Rigler parent volunteers, select two new members, and return
to school by October 21. Personal statements, but not ballots, are also printed below.
Wednesday, October 19:
School opens late at 10:00AM. Also, school picture day.
Saturday, October 22:
Parkrose High School will host Community and Parents for
Public Schools’ (CPPS) annual Parent Leadership Conference. This is a free event with
childcare and translation for five languages. Go to www.cppsportland.org for more
information.
October 26, 5:30-7:00
: Day of the Dead – Come to a traditional celebration honoring
life and family with the Rigler community. There will be dinner, music and activities.
November 2, 6:00-8:00:
Make your voice heard! Help decide the future of Rigler
School! Come participate in the decision making in a discussion with representatives of
Portland Public Schools. Both families and students are invited and translation into
multiple languages will be provided.
Friday, November 4:
the Hollywood Theatre will show Finding Kind, an award-winning
documentary addressing the subject of bullying among girls. To see a trailer of the
movie search KindCampaign on youtube.

Rigler Site Council Nominations 2011-2012
Below are the names and some statements from candidates interested in serving on our
Site Council. The mission of the Rigler School Site Council is to provide leadership,
direction and support toward the improvement of student performance and school
climate. Site Council members serve for two years. Please read these and vote for TWO
new members by checking the small box before the names.

Mollie Koett
: I would be honored to serve on the Rigler Site Counsel. I have one child
who is attending 2
nd grade at Rigler Elementary School. Currently I am a full time
student at Portland State University focusing in Community Development. I was a parent
representative for Albina Head Start in 2008. I am interested in serving on the Site
Council because I would like to be part of the parental voice. This allows parents to
provide input, demonstrate support and show kids that education is important. It also
allows one to be a part of the process and hopefully to find solutions to current issues.

Richele Baldock
: My name is Richele Baldock and my son is in Kindergarten at Rigler.
I am interested in Site Council because I want to be a strong advocate for all the
children and their parents at Rigler. I served this last school year 2010-2011 as the
State Representative for the Portland Public School Head Start Executive Policy Council
which represented the parents of all the Head Start children at the State level. I have a
Bachelor of Art degree from Southern Oregon University. I have the desire, energy and
focus to make sure your needs as a parent are heard. I would be honored to represent
you all.
Kevin Rogers:
Yo soy un Profesional Financiero. I have one child attends Rigler; she is
a 5
th grader and is in the Spanish Immersion Program. She was in the first immersion
class. My wife and I have attended events at the schools for the past 5 years. Our child
has been a student there since Kindergarten. She has participated in SUN and has been
involved in sports via the Playworks program. I have wanted to be more involved with
the school, but my work schedule does not always allow for that. So, I view this as my
opportunity to participate.
My professional background includes working for larger organizations in financial
management, project management, and operational roles. These skills, I believe, will
allow me to add value to Site Council. I will never forget that the education of the
student body is always the most important thing. Also, I will work to ensure that the
Rigler staff is accountable and that they keep the students’ academic achievement as
their number one goal.
Matthew Kirchoffer-Talbott:
My name is Matthew Kirchoffer-Talbott. My family is
new to Rigler this year. My son Benjamin is in 4
th grade, and my daughter Zoe is in
Kindergarten. Site Council is an opportunity for me to get more involved in my
children’s education at their new school, and participate in a very dynamic school
community.
Eric Fischer:
My name is Eric Fischer and I have a 3rd grader in the immersion
program at Rigler. I am interested in having some input into the ongoing development
of our school. I believe and hope that Site Council is a forum that can lead to tangible
change and improvement of our school and therefore our children's education. I am an
emergency room nurse at Emanuel Hospital for almost 14 years and have had various
jobs through out my life as well as being a veteran. Thank you for your consideration.

¡Hola! Gracias por tomarse tiempo leyendo el PANTHER TRACKS. Todas las semanas
nuestras noticias, los eventos por venir y las diferentes actividades en que los padres
pueden colaborar en mejorar a Rigler, son resumidas en este boletín.

Para mantener la seguridad de los alumnos y la comunidad de Rigler, utiliza
solamente las puertas principales del edificio. Si deseas
ser voluntario despues
de escuela a lat 2:15am y ayudar los estudiantes con tarea, lonche, recreo y sus

El closet del PTA necesita urgentemente pantalones de niño tallas 4-10. el primer
día de voluntariado para Rigler en el closet es el 28 de noviembre, no lo olvide marquelo
en su calendario. Para mas información acerca de este voluntariado, o para reembolso de
sus impuestos por su donación, acérquese a la oficina principal. Gracias por su ayuda,

La biblioteca permanecerá abierta despues del horario escolar, para asegurarnos
que los estudiantes estén allí haciendo lo que se supone deben hacer, y estén seguros
los estamos invitando a visitar la biblioteca despues de la escuela acompañados de sus
padres u otro hermano mayor en el caso de los estudiantes de kinder y primer grado. de
2do. a 6to. grado los estudiantes necesitan una nota de sus padres. Gracias por su
cooperación.

Identificar y premiar conductas positivas. Necesitamos donaciones que puedan ir
dentro de "La Cesta del Tesoro", (articulos deportivos, material escolar, manualidades,
juguetes etc.). Nosotros damos estos premios todos lo lúnes y estamos atrasados
obteniendolos!. Tenemos una caja en la oficina de la entrada donde puede colocar sus
donaciones. Gracias a Ruth Tucker, Especialista en Conducta Estudiantil.
Fechas Importantes- ¡márquelas en su calendario!
El lúnes, 17 de octubre
: mantengase alerta por las nominaciones al Consejo Escolar
de Rigler, serán enviadas a la casa con los estudiantes. Por favor lea la cuenta personal
de cada uno de los nominados, todos son padres voluntarios de Rigler, elija 2 miembros
y regréselo a la escuela el 21 de octubre.
El miércoles 19 de octubre:
la escuela abre a las 10:00 a.m. Dia de fotos por los
estudiantes.
El miércoles 26 de octubre, 5:30-7:00:
Día de los Muertos. Venga a celebrar esta
tradicional fiesta en honor a la vida y la familia, con la Comunidad de Rigler. Habrá
¡cena, música y diversas actividades!.
El miércoles 2 de noviembre 6:00-8:00
: ¡¡¡haga escuchar su voz!!! Ayude a decidir
el futuro de la la escuela Rigler. Venga y participe en la discusión con representantes de
¡Portland Public School! Padres y estudiantes están invitados , habrá traducción a varios
idiomas.
El sábado 22 de octubre:
La Comunidad de Padres de las Escuelas Públicas de Pórtland
(CPPS) tendrá su Conferencia anual de Liderazgo para Padres en Parkrose H.S. este es un
evento gratuito, con cuidado de niños y traducción a 5 idiomas. Vea cppsportland.org para
mas información.
El viernes 4 de noviembre por la noche
en el teatro Hollywood, vea "Finding Kind",
un documental premiado cuyo tema es acerca del maltrato del que son victimas las
ninas por parte de compañeros. Recomendado para las edades de 10 años en
adelante.Para ver avances de la película puede visitar Kindcampaign en youtube.

Nominaciones del Consejo Escolar de Rigler 2011-2012
Aquí están los nombres y algunos testimonios de algunos candidatos que están interesados en ser
parte del consejo escolar. La misión del Consejo Escolar de Rigler es proporcionar liderazgo, dirección y
apoyo para el mejoramiento del desempeño del estudiante y el clima escolar. Los miembros del
Consejo Escolar servirán por dos años.Por Favor de leer estos testimonios y vote por DOS nuevos
miembros con marcar las cajas pequeñas antes de cada nombre.

Mollie Koett
: Seria un honor para mi servir en el consejo escolar de Rigler. Tengo un estudiante que
va en el segundo grado en la Escuela Rigler. En estos momentos soy estudiante de tiempo completo en
La Universidad Estatal De Portland enfocándome en el desarrollo de la comunidad. Yo era una
representante de padres en Albina Head Start en el 2008. Yo estoy interesada en servir en el consejo
escolar porque a mi me gustaría ser parte de la voz de padres. Esto nos permite a los padres dar
nuestras opiniones, demostrar nuestro apoyo y demostrarles a los niños que la educación es
importante. Esto también nos permite ser parte de algunos procesos y tal vez poder encontrar
soluciones para los problemas de hoy. ¡Gracias!
Richele Baldock
: Mi nombre es Richele Baldock y tengo hijo que va en el kinder en Rigler. Yo estoy
interesada en ser parte del consejo por que quiero ser un abogante fuerte para todos los niños y sus
padres de Rigler. Yo participe en esto el año pasado 2010-2011 como representante del estado al nivel
exclusivo del consulado para El Head Start en Las Escuelas Publicas De Portland, representando a
todos los padres y niños de Head Start a nivel estatal. Yo tengo mi título de arte que lo obtuve en La
Universidad Del Sur De Oregon. Yo tengo le deseo, las energías y el enfoque para ser sus necesidades
presentes y escuchadas. Seria un honor para mi representarlos a todos ustedes.
Kevin Rogers:
Yo soy un profesional financiero. Tengo un niño que asiste a Rigler; ella es una
estudiante del 5to grado y se encuentra en el Programa de Inmersión en español. Ella estuvo en la
primera clase inmersión. Mi esposa y yo hemos asistido a eventos en las escuelas por los últimos 5
años. Nuestro hijo ha sido un estudiante allí desde el kindergarten. Ella ha participado en el programa
de SUN y ha estado involucrada en los deportes a través del programa Playworks. Yo he querido estar
más involucrado con la escuela, pero mi horario de trabajo no me lo permite siempre. Sin embargo,
veo esto como mi oportunidad para participar.
Mi experiencia profesional incluye trabajar para grandes organizaciones gestión financiera, el proyecto
en gestión y funciones operacionales. Estas habilidades, creo que me permiten agregar valor al
Consejo Escolar. Nunca me olvidaré de que la educación de los estudiantes es siempre lo más
importante. Además, trabajaré para asegurar que el personal de la escuela de Rigler sea responsable y
que ellos mantengan los logros académicos de los estudiantes como su principal objetivo
.
Matthew Kirchoffer-Talbott:
Mi nombre es Matthew Kirchoffer-Talbott. Mi familia es nueva en
Rigler este año. Mi hijo Benjamin esta en 4
to grado, y mi hija Zoe esta en el Kindergarten. El Consejo
Escolar una oportunidad para mi para involucrarme más en la educación de mis hijos en su nueva
escuela y participar en una comunidad escolar muy dinámica.
Eric Fischer:
Mi nombre es Eric Fischer y yo tenemos un alumno en tercer grado en el programa de
inmersión en la Escuela de Rigler. Estoy interesado en tener alguna participación en el desarrollo
continuo de nuestra escuela. Creo y espero que el Consejo Escolar sea un sitio es un foro que puede
dar lugar a un cambio tangible y el mejoramiento de nuestra escuela y por lo tanto, la educación de
nuestros hijos. He sido un enfermero en la sala de urgencias en el Hospital Emanuel durante casi 14
años y he tenido varios trabajos en mi vida, además de ser un veterano. Gracias por su consideración.
