Lorison Shuell

Welcome to Mrs. Shuell's Kindergarten Website
Hello, I am one of two Kindergarten teachers at Ockley Green. I am lucky to be able to teach the students at the beginning of their education experience. I am able to see my students come in as preschoolers, five years old, and grow into students ready for 1st grade. I see my students grow everyday.
I went to school at Portland State University and received a Bachelors Degree in Education and an Endorsement in Mathematics. I have taken several classes, workshops and gone to many seminars to keep current in the changes in education.
I began my teaching in Las Vegas, NV substituting and teaching sixth grade. I moved back to Portland and taught kindergarten for five years. After that I substituted for a year in many schools and grade levels. In 1995, I began teaching Mathematics at Ockley Green. When I found out there was going to be a second Kindergarten class at our school I quickly asked if I could be considered for that position. This is my first year teaching Kindergarten again. I love being back in Kindergarten.
Class Description:
Our Kindergarten is full of laughter, songs and students learning. We learn all about the skills to become good readers, writers and about the world around us. In Kindergarten it is important for students to be able to move and have fun. Kindergartners need to be involved with what they are learning. Therefore we sing, create and have fun while we learn how to be a successful students.
Homework Policy:
I send homework home on Fridays and it is due the next Friday. I believe it is a way for families to build the practice of having a time set for homework. It also helps the student’s practice what is being taught in the classroom. It is a family’s choice how they want to handle homework at this age. My hope is that it will be a fun, family experience. I do not want homework to become an added stress to families’ lives or a negative experience for my students.
