Ockley Green Garden Greenspace

The Ockley Green Garden represents the spirit of community - serving the Ockley Green Community, the Portland Community, and the community beyond Portland. The Garden provides a place for students to work, learn, share, and play together. It is a source of inspiration, as well as a quiet place for reflection and relaxation. A sense of purpose and appreciation is woven through all Garden activities. Through the Garden, students, staff, parents, and community members build relationships with each other and with nature.

A little History…
Some time ago there was an active garden in a fenced-in area at the northern end of the school. For years it was utilized by students for science class and as a place of wonder. It was a lovely place with native plants, raised beds for vegetables, herb gardens, composting bins and a small pond. Because of time and energy constraints on the staff that kept it going, the garden was laid to rest after a while and has not been attended to for a few years.

Now, the garden is cleaned up and ready for a new beginning. This time we are hoping to create a community of engaged and invested people to help sustain the garden and build ongoing relationships with the school and neighborhood. A committee of members of the school and local community will form The Garden Committee. This committee will meet regularly to continue the planning and visioning of the garden. Various projects may include working on finances, garden curriculum, work parties and more.
