More Dragon News
Thank you to everyone who supported our annual auction. It was an opportunity to raise funds for our program and to show others in our community that we truly have amazing students and parents. Through everyone’s efforts, we were able to communicate more with our local businesses and organizations that Ockley Green is a viable and active program and that opportunity is priceless.
Some of our Ockley Green students will be showcased in a local commercial. It is very exciting to announce that the Ockley Green Drama Troupe has been selected to participate in a commercial campaign for the Oregon Dental Association. Our very own Jennie Brown, drama teacher, has prepared the students for this awesome moment.
We have some exciting news coming from our music program. On May 17 at 6PM, we are hosting a Musical Spring Fling. Our K-3rd graders will be performing along with the Ockley Green choir, band, and drum line. I hope to see you there. We have been invited to a Rose Festival event on Saturday, May 26 from 11:45-12:30. This event will be held downtown at Tom McCall Park. Plus, on Thursday, June 7th the Ockley Green Choir has been invited to sing at City Hall at noon for another Rose Festival Event. Go Ockley Green.
Our Run for Arts event in April was an energetic one. We appreciate Mr. Johnson and the Ockley Green parents for making this event happen. The funds raised from this event goes directly to students for art enrichment. For example, our exceptional Family Art Night event was hosted by funds from this fundraiser.
We will have our next Principal Coffee on May 18 at 9AM. Mr. Rowell will have a parent session about writing in a K-8 and “What Parents Need to Know.”
The Royal Rosarian Foundation has selected our school to provide us with more field trips and they have provided us with $470.00 dollars to make this happen. We can help multiple classrooms attend field trips. For example, Ms. Pearson’s class will be going to the Oregon Zoon and Ms. Ferguson will be visiting the Oregon Historical Society and the Central Library Downtown.
Our Dragon Weekly Backpack program is growing in partnerships. A group called Take Action Inc. has adopted Ockley Green. Today they delivered a variety of food items to our school to help fight food insecurity in our community. Plus, recently a group of 7th and 8th graders from West Hills Christian School provided some community service to Ockley Green and helped decorate our gym for a school dance. Thank you to these groups for helping us help others.
In April the Ockley Green Site Council hosted our annual Town hall Meeting. The event intended to gather feedback from parents and teachers regarding our program. I truly believe that when you get parents and teachers together talking to each other great things can happen. The feedback that was collected will be shared at our next Parent Teacher Organization on May 15 at 6PM both childcare and dinner will be provided.
Sincerely,
Conrad Hurdle
