Welcome to Room 222 where young scientists, readers, artists, mathematicians, builders, writers, thinkers, and friends gather to work and play, learn and teach, discover and share together every day.
Teaching first and second grade students continues to energize and challenge me. I have found my teaching home with this age group. I have been working in early childhood education since the late '70's and have worked with infants through 8 year olds in a variety of settings. I bring a strong educational and experiential foundation in child development to my work and this influences every decision I make. I love the earnestness, curiosity, creativity, and sense of fun that come so easily to our youngest students. Watching their skills and understandings emerge across the curriculum is both satisfying and inspirational. I believe that children learn by doing, through active engagement with one another and with our world. Our program is project oriented, activities tend to be open ended, and we often work together in partners or in small groups to expand our understanding. I love the relationships that are built with students and families over our 2 years together. And, most importantly, I have an opportunity to really know who my students are and to witness and support their growth over an extended time.
I have found my school home here at MLC. This is truly a place where people choose to come and to stay. I am so appreciative of the hard work and commitment to children that I witness in our staff. I am grateful to be part of a community of families that extends so much of themselves to our school. I am looking forward to a year of growth, making new friends and meeting new challenges.
I have two grown sons, a beautiful daughter in law, and the most wonderful grandson in the world! I live in SE PDX with my soul-mate and three crazy cats. I love to garden, be out in the wilds, cook and be with the people I love..
