FROM:  Your Marysville SUN Community School Site Manager, Audrey Rozell

Welcome back to a new school year!  This past week I have enjoyed seeing both familiar and new faces in the halls of our school.  SUN Community Schools are a collaboration of Multnomah County, City of Portland Parks and Recreation and Portland Public School District. SUN stands for Schools Uniting Neighborhoods and our goal is to provide a support hub where schools and communities work together to support the success of children and families and provide a comprehensive array of services.

Parents and students have been asking me, “When does SUN after school program begin?”  I appreciated your enthusiasm and am happy to share the following details. Registration for fall SUN will begin on September 15th.  Fall session runs October 5- November 25, Monday- Thursday.  A flier will be sent home and registration forms will also be available that night at our Back to School Night Ice Cream Social.  Feel free to register at our SUN table that night.

After school classes are available Monday through Thursday for grades 1st -8th grades and range from arts and crafts, drama, science and sports.  All are welcome to apply.  Donations of any amount help make it possible to offer more classes, improve the quality of classes and to serve more students.  Actual cost of each SUN class is $127 per student, per term.

Resources available through the SUN program include:  housing information, energy assistance, emergency toiletries, clothing closet referrals, food backpacks and if your family is eligible, TriMet bus passes.

Lastly, I have the opportunity to work with Rosina Hardy, Parent Engagement Coach, on parent/family engagement activities throughout the school year ranging from Breakfast Club to parent education classes to our annual Diversity Night Celebration in the Spring.  Rosina and I will be seeking your feedback on topics of interest so that we can better serve your needs as parents/guardians.  We look forward to working with you!

I work at Marysville School Monday- Friday during school hours. Please stop by my office in room 150, call me at 503-544-3380 or e-mail me at arozell@impactnw.org if I can be of any assistance to you and your family.
