A Brief Newsletter From Room 113
December 2, 2011

Dear Parents,
We have had a great “Teddy Bear” week. We have read fiction and non-fiction books about bears. We have sung songs about bears. We have practiced labeling, making lists, and written stories about bears. We have graphed our bears in many ways. We have measured our bears. We also made beautiful bear artwork!
Dezso, one of our students, brought in a great book about Ursula Minor, The Great Bear Constellation. This time of the year is a great time to look at stars with your child. Next time you are out in the dark, help your child see “the biggest bear in the world”!
Part of our work with bears has focused on empathy. We have talked about what empathy feels like and what we can do when we have feelings of empathy. Continue to have conversations about empathy. Notice when your child is being empathic and let them know how they are filling someone’s bucket.
Unfortunately, I will be out of the building next Monday and Tuesday afternoons and all day Wednesday. Most of this time will be spent for training on Dibels, an assessment PPS is using. Mrs. McMinn will be our guest teacher. She will be doing several fun literacy projects with the students.
Attached is the homework book list for December, a list of books we read in November, an interesting article I ran across last week and a new math game. December can be a stressful month for children. I always tried to stick to routines and to keep things simple with my kids.
Have a nice weekend.
