January Update

Native American Reports- We finished our research and writing before the holiday break.  In the first couple of weeks in January we polished up the accompanying PowerPoint presentations.  Speeches begin January 18^th, and will continue the following week! 

Biography Projects- Are complete!  We completed the portraits in class last week and are currently presenting our work.  It has been fun to learn about all of the interesting people represented in our biography reading.

Mathematics – Our current unit, called Multiplication, Division and Fractions is well underway.  We are moving from the multiplication/division portion to the focus on fractions.   As with all math done in the Bridges curriculum, we begin with visual models to help students understand key concepts.  Our end of unit learning goals include modeling  and adding/subtracting fractions.

Writing – We have completed drafts of our stories inspired by the awesomely original characters we created.  Next, we’ll be trying our hand at historical fiction.  We’ll look back at the story “Shutting Out the Sky” which is chock-full of turn-of-the-century photographs.
