Shirley Bolsinger
Mrs. Bolsinger has been teaching for Portland Public Schools for the past 16 years. She has been a Special Education teacher for Madison High School for the past five years, first as a Life Skills' teacher and most recently as a Learning Specialist in the Resource Center. She attended Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon, Eastern Oregon College in LaGrande, Oregon, and Portland State University where she earned an Elementary Education degree in 1990 and later added a Special Education Endorsement in 1998.
Her interest in teaching began when she was an elementary student. She spent many hours tutoring her younger brother with developmental disabilities. It was during this time that she first felt the calling to become a teacher.
She has worked with a wide variety of students with disabilities and enjoys the challenges and opportunities of working with students, parents, teachers, and specialists. For Mrs. Bolsinger, teaching is the passion of her life and the opportunity to give back to students and parents the education that her brother was not given.
