Dear Families,

After reevaluating the number of projected students in the first and second grades for next year, I have decided to maintain a fourth section of second grade and have three sections of first grade.  Based on recent enrollment data, next year’s first grade should have between 82 – 86 students while second grade should have between 100 – 104 students.  This change in grade configuration should provide reasonable class sizes in all grade levels.  Remember there will be four sections in grades three, four and five next year.  To make this work, Jennifer Buchanan is moving from first to second grade.  Jennifer is an accomplished teacher and she is highly qualified to teach second grade.  She will teach in room 109. 

On June 12, Portland Public Schools presents an evening event for parents. Participants have an opportunity to learn about the Common Core State Standards and experience what teaching and learning are like in a Common Core classroom.
