Registering for IB Exams

The Benefits of Taking IB Exams:

Taking an IB exam for an IB class completes the assessment cycle for that course. The exam confirms and affirms the learning that took place and builds confidence in students. The official scores on the exams may earn students college credit or advanced placement in college classes. Students who take IB courses and the accompanying exams are better prepared for the work they will face in college.

How to Decide Which IB Exams to take:

IB exams may only be taken by juniors and seniors. You must be in the final year of the IB course in order to test. Full diploma candidates will need to assess in 6 subjects overall. Full diploma candidates may take up to two IB exams towards their IB diploma in their junior year. If the student is not a candidate for the full IB diploma, they are considered IB Course candidates. These students earn an IB Course certificate upon the successful completion of the IB exam for a given subject. Course candidates may register for as many exams as they wish. Please check our page ‘IB and Colleges’ to see the IB exam recognition policy of universities. Both University of Oregon and Oregon State grant college credit for both Higher Level and Standard Level IB subjects with a score of 5 or above.

How to Register:

Exam registration begins October 2, 2015 and closes November 6, 2015. Students need to go to their Naviance account, http://succeed.naviance.com/family-connection/auth/login/?hsid=lincolnhs, and click on the “About Me” tab.  Look under “Surveys to Take” on the left side and you will find the link for IB Test Registration.

Please use this checklist to verify you have completed all the necessary steps to register for IB exams:

  1. Complete the registration on Naviance and print the form.
  2. Parents need to print and sign the acceptance form for the IB General Regulations.  The link to the form is on top of this web page.
  3. Bring the printed registration form and signed acceptance form with a check for test fees to Jill Ross, Lincoln HS Bookkeeper, in room 104.
  4. Check that the registration information is correct.  Individual registration information will be given to students in one of their IB classes.  Students will be asked to verify accuracy of the registration information and to submit any corrections to the IB office by November 15th.

IB Exam Fee Structure:

Students need to submit payment for IB exams fees upon registration. These fees include a registration fee, test fee, facilities fee and a shipping fee. The amount of the fees is given on the Naviance registration form. Late fees are assessed by IB for new registrations or changes in IB exam registrations that occur after November 15th. Register carefully and early to avoid these fees!

Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch will have all IB exam fees waived.
Parents needing a payment plan should contact Jill Ross at jross2@pps.net.

Exam Fee Refunds:

Partial refunds are available between November 15, 2015 - January 15, 2016.  There are no refunds after January 15, 2016.

Exam Schedule:

Exams are held the first three weeks in May 2016. Check the exam dates and save the exam schedule-the link to the schedule is found at the top of this webpage.  Exams are scheduled for one-, two-, or three-day sessions. Dates and times are not negotiable or adjustable.  Make sure you have no conflicts before you register. No refunds are made for IB exams not attended. There are no “late” test dates – juniors must wait until May 2017 to retake and seniors may retake in November 2016.

Release of IB scores:

IB scores are released online in July.  Students will be given a password and PIN to access their IB account. Students use their IB account information to log into the website http://candidates.ibo.org where they may check their scores and request IB transcripts. IB transcripts for seniors are automatically sent to the college that the student designates in Naviance.

Exam Venue:

Given the limited space at Lincoln, IB exams are taken off-site.  Students will be provided detailed exam instructions in April.
