CAS: Creativity, Action and Service

The CAS element of the IB Diploma places an emphasis on experiential learning that takes seriously the importance of life outside the classroom. Participation in CAS encourages students to share their energies and special talents while developing awareness, concern and the ability to work together. As the IB Program literature says, “the goal of educating the whole person and fostering more caring and socially responsible attitudes comes alive when students reach beyond themselves and their books.” Because IB aims for balance, students are asked not just to do service to others but to nurtures themselves as well – follow their passion of art and music, for instance.
