Links for lesson planning

Ninety minutes is the length of a football match and a class at Lincoln HS. This new class length requires a paradigm shift for most of us. Here are resources for planning and teaching in 90 minute blocks.

Please contact me (by clicking here) if you have suggestions for additions to this list.

NEW!

Wilson's IS has set up a site with some generic block planning guidelines (as in what percent of class should be used for different types of activities.  Check it out here.

[Expect to see more this week.]

Teacher Planet has a nice collection of planning templates online that you may find useful.  Click Here for feedback.

This planning formula was developed by an English teacher in CA for 120 minute blocks.  It seems like a good model for planning.  It may be suitable for some subjects more than others.  Please give me feedback if you try it out.

This template is generic and divides the block period into two main lessons with initial and closing activities.  I'd suggest breaking periods down into 3 activities for younger students.  Feedback on this model.

ASCD offers this page that describes principles and techniques for block schedule planning.  Scroll past the beginning to get to the high school suggestions.  Feedback.

Choreographing block classes is an excellent resource.  Feedback.

Icebreakers

View of Antartica from the bow of a Russian Icebreaker.

This site has a large number of icebreaker activities.  I suggest using these over the first several days of class to get to know your students and for them to get to know each other.  Feed Back.
