Freshman College and Career Planning
FRESHMAN YEAR CHECK LIST
- Take school seriously from the first day – this is not grade school
- Meet with your Counselor to discuss college plans, if you want to start planning now
- Take college prep courses, or the hardest courses you can handle
- Make sure you have science, math and English courses
- Take a foreign language (plan to stick with the same language for at least two and preferably all four years)
- Attend class, ask for help with troubling courses, do your homework, study: do everything you can to get good grades. Freshman grades count!
- Plan some volunteer/community service work
- Join at least one club and/or play a sport
- Keep track of activities, honors, awards and accomplishments
- It is not too early to talk about college finances
- Read, read, read, read, read
