Carol Hart
Dear Students, Parents and Guardians:
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Carol Hart; I was born and raised in Portland and currently reside in Boring. I like to travel. Much of my free time is spent remodeling and repairing my home in Boring, and working on a variety of other building projects on our property.
For the last four years I have taught at Laurelhurst. I‘ve worked in the Portland Pubic School District since 1982 and have taught many different subjects including Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies, and Outdoor School Curriculum. During my career, I’ve been involved with many different organizational systems including block based programs and blended grade classrooms.
Learning is a life long venture in which all take part. I believe that all students can learn and achieve. My personal goal as an educator has always been to instill in each of my students confidence, communication skills, and the ability to plan and organize. I want my students to be able to find information they need and to be able to satisfy their own curiosity.
I will be working with Mrs. Schloosser, Mrs. Berkley and Mr. Vaughn in a collaborative learning team. I am excited about developing a sixth grade curriculum that will support their curriculum for language arts and social studies. This year I will be teaching a "Communications" course and a "Health and Wellness" rotation, as well as the sixth grade social studies curriculum. All students will be able to work up to their level of competency regardless of where they start at the beginning of the year. The basis for all coursework is the priority standards set forth by Portland Public Schools. You can link to these by going to the standards page. All students are expected to master the priorities at their grade level, and they may continue on to tackle more difficult language arts and social studies contents.
During the years that I have been a part of the Portland Public School District community I have enjoyed working closely with the students, staff and parents. If you have any questions, please contact me (chart@pps.net).
