Two-hour late opening, Wednesday, April 16

Wednesday, April 16 is a two-hour late opening for most elementary, K-8 and middle schools; classes commence two hours later than usual.  The following schools are closed a full day: Chavez, George, King, Lane, Rigler, Rosa Parks, Scott, Sitton, Vernon, Whitman and Woodmere. High schools are on normal schedule and not impacted by this professional development day.

Free Popcorn and Movie Night!

Students are invited to this month's Free Popcorn and Movie Night
This month, Mr. Reiter will be showing "The Day After Tomorrow," starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid and Emmy Rossum. According to IMDB, the movie centers on a father's daring quest across America to reach his son, who is trapped in the cross-hairs of a sudden international storm that plunges the planet into a new ice age. Students who want to watch the adventure must have a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian.

What: Free popcorn and a screening of "The Day After Tomorrow."

Lifetouch will be taking student photos at Lane on Wednesday, April 23rd. If you would like your students to participate, please fill out the order form that will be sent home and include payment. (Lifetouch will only be photographing students with payment ready.)

EdBox is now ParentVUE

 

 


EdBox Viewer gets new name in Fall 2013

In Fall 2013, as part of the transition to the new Synergy student information system, PPS will replace the EdBox Viewer that middle and high school families can use to access student grades and attendance. The new EdBox tool, called Synergy ParentVUE, will be available in multiple languages and also as a free mobile app. Families will receive new log-in instructions to Synergy ParentVUE and links to online support materials in Fall 2013. EdBox Viewer recibe Nuevo nombre en el otoño del 2013

En el otoño del 2013, como parte de la transición al Nuevo sistema de información estudiantil, Las Escuelas Públicas de Portland reemplazaran el EdBox Viewer que las familias de secundaria y preparatoria pueden utilizar para acceder a las calificaciones del estudiante y la asistencia. La nueva herramienta de EdBox, llamada Synergy ParentVUE, estará disponible en varios idiomas y también como una aplicación móvil.

Hand sharpener for colored pencils

(3) 100 sheet composition notebooks (marbled kind) for interactive notebooks

(1) 3 inch or larger binder

8 Tab separators packet for note section, homework, worksheets etc

Loose notebook paper for classroom notes and classroom work

Highlighters (At least 3 different colors)

Storage container to keep glue sticks, colored pencils, scissors, etc. (This will need to be brought daily to class.)

Brand new Faubion one step closer

Parents raise record amount for schools

April 17, 2014

The PPS parent community continues to fill gaps and break records with their fundraising, illuminating the countless volunteer hours spent by PPS parents in support of the entire district. In 2012-13, PPS parents raised a record $4.1 million. One-third of all monies raised by parents is set aside in the Portland Public Schools Foundation (PPSF) Equity Fund.

Gray MS teacher Siedel is Milken winner

Milken Foundation Co-Founder Mike Milken surprised Robert Gray Middle School math teacher Teresa Chan Seidel with the national Milken Educator Award April 15 amid a jubilant all-school assembly. Called the "Oscar of Teaching," the award includes a $25,000 prize.
