Kindergarten Kids Newsletter
September 9, 2011 Dear Families,
We had a wonderful first full day of school with your children today! We read stories, sang songs, played outside, went to dance class and music class! It was a very busy day!
Next week we begin our reading and math programs. We have so many new things to learn this year! On Monday, we will send home the first homework packet for the year. A homework packet will be sent home every Monday. There are activiites to do every evening, and the packet is to be returned Friday morning. Part of the homework every evening is to have your child read the "refrigerator words" to you, and read for 15 minutes. This can be time you (or big brother or sister, grandma or grandpa, aunt or uncle, etc.) read to your child or your child reads to you! Please sign the homework each evening to say that you've looked over your child's work and read together.
Open House will be on Thursday, September 22, from 5:30-7:00 PM. We will meet in the cafeteria at 5:30, then go to our rooms after Mrs. Patterson speaks. We hope to see you there! Mrs. Loske and Ms. Lynch
Reading Work At Home

Reading work to do at home:
Unit 1 / Week 1
In Kindergarten, we learn to read high frequency words by sight. We call these "refrigerator words". We recommend that parents work with their children at home on these words as well. For now, we will have two new word wall words every two weeks.
Of course, Kindergarteners are learning to name all the letters of the alphabet. With the program we are teaching this year, we will introduce all the letters within the first few weeks of school. After all the letters have been introduced, we will work with your child on learning each letter more thoroughly, as well as the sound for each letter. Here are the “refrigerator words” and letters for this week so you can help your child at home.
Refrigerator words; I, am
Letters: Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee
