From Mrs. Allen

The month of January is a very busy one here at Kelly.  We are preparing for our first round of state testing for our third, fourth and fifth graders, and our winter tests for kindergarten, first and second.  Students work in reading, math and writing will be assessed, and reported back to parents on our February report cards.  Teachers are working hard to see that students are prepared for these assessments.  Good attendance is very important during this time.  So far this year we have met our attendance goal of 93% average daily attendance, but we want to improve that even more before the end of the year.  Thank you for your help. 

Our parent groups have been very busy as well.  PTA is preparing for our Ram restaurant fundraiser in February, and is committed to a movie night every month for the rest of the year.  Our Russian Immersion parent group is working on increasing the numbers of Russian books in the library and classrooms and on investing in costumes to enhance our students’ performances in Russian dance.  The ABCD method of surveying residents in our neighborhood to learn more about their needs and opinions is being conducted with the leadership of Rusty Bonham and our site council.  Our school advisory group is involved in improving the lighting of our school, and assisting with the amazing efforts of our SUN program and food bank.  Recently, Laura Jones our librarian, accepted a huge donation from OES toward our second “10,000 Books” drive to put books in the hands of each student as they leave for summer vacation.  I am overwhelmed with gratitude to these groups for the service they give to Kelly and their dedication to our educational programs.
