Ms. Turley - Room #104
2nd Grade
It’s hard to believe it’s been 1 full month and a half since school first started! Our second grade students have been hard at work.
In the last few weeks students completed unit one of the Scott Foresman reading curriculum. Each unit focuses on the development of 3 fundamental literacy components (comprehension skills, vocabulary building, and phonics & fluency practice). Science and Social Studies concepts that are aligned with Oregon State Standards are embedded into each Scot Foresman unit as well. Neighborhoods and Habitats were topics built into unit one (and these will cycle back through the curriculum throughout the year). We will begin an independent study on Weather in the weeks ahead. Also, students completed unit one of, Portland Public Schools new math adoption, Bridges. Each unit utilizes center work, calendar work, and group/independent practice to foster specific math concepts. Unit one focused on patterning and place value in relation to number sense. Unit two, which we are beginning, focuses on math problem solving skills. I look forward to seeing you at Kelly School's Reading Night on Thursday, November 3rd!
