What is happening in our room!

We are excited about this new coming school year! We have five Kindergarten classes-three English speaking, and two Russian Immersion.

This year P.P.S. has adopted a new Math Program-"Bridges". It is a more hands-on, and fun Math approach for our Kindergartners.

We are so pleased to have our Music Program back this year, on top of the PE, and Library specials that we already have.

All of the Kindergarten teachers are looking forward to working with all our littlest additions to our school.

Month of October

We have started our "Walk to Read" reading program. Children are so excited about being able to go to another classroom to learn how to read. Our reading program starts at 10:15-11:00.

We are currently planning a field trip to the Pumpkin Patch. It is on October 31st, and the cost is $9.00. Please watch out for the permission slip coming home.

A Little About Ms. McLean

Ms. McLean earned her degrees from Portland State University (B.A. '75 with Summa Cum Laude honors), and her Masters (M.Ed. '79) from the University of Portland.  She started her teaching with Portland Public Schools in 1975 as a HeadStart teacher for seven years, then moved overseas to West Kalimantan, Indonesia to teach college (Universitas Tanjunpura).  In 1984, she started her next phase of her teaching career in Singapore, teaching Kindergarten at the Singapore American School.  Thanks to all those years living overseas she enjoyed the opportunities to learn to speak Bahasa Indonesia, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

After coming home to the U.S., she spent 13 years teaching third grade at a different school in Portland, and this is her third year teaching at Kelly School. She enjoys her Kindergarten class, and is learning so much together with her students this year.

Recently she has a brand new family member!  His name is Jordan, born to her daughter on April 22nd. He is just a wonderful addition to his grandmother's family!

Update on Jordan-

Jordan is now an active and busy little boy, and loves to visit anywhere that is fun, and interesting.  I am sure he is hoping for a baby sister, or brother to play with!
