Community and Parent Involvement

Jefferson High School – Middle College for Advanced Studies: A partnership with you

Superintendent Carole Smith brought community leaders, parents and alumni together with Jefferson and PCC-Cascade leaders and faculty to help shape key aspects of Jefferson High School – Middle College for Advanced Studies.

Family and community support are essential cornerstones of Jefferson – from supporting students in their academics to cheering on the school’s powerhouse sports teams and turning out for Jefferson dance and dramatic performances.

Community partnerships are the foundation of a strengthened Jefferson, from the longstanding partnership with PCC to support services from Self Enhancement, Inc. Starting in the Fall, SEI will offer tutoring, mentoring and social support to all Jefferson students to help – alongside teachers and counselors – students reach for and attain college credit while completing their Jefferson High School diploma.

More opportunities for family and community involvement are coming soon. Check this space for updates.

“It’s a rebirth – Jefferson High School
and the community coming together
to make the School of Champions rise again.”
~ Mitch Whitehurst, Jefferson teacher and athletic director

Ready Set Connect

Studies show that students are more successful when adults are involved with their school lives — by volunteering in their classroom, attending parent-teacher conferences, making sure they have a place to study, expressing interest and asking questions about their studies.

It's also helpful to understand how the school system works and what to expect grade to grade. But understanding the choices and challenges your student may face during the K-12 experience can feel overwhelming.

This site is designed to link you to a variety of information, resources and services offered by Portland Public Schools to help you get connected to your student's education, particularly in preparation for the transition grades: kindergarten, sixth grade and ninth grade.  Learn More
