School News & Announcements
“We are writing to the community to inform you of a new project that will be getting underway this summer. Portland Public Schools has been coordinating with Portland General Electric on a project to install solar panels on the roofs of the following six schools: Arleta, Bridlemile, Hosford, James John, Laurelhurst, and Wilson. These schools were chosen by PPS because they were part of previous bond-funded roof improvement projects and were determined to be suitable for solar photovoltaic (PV) installations based on a 2013 PPS Solar Feasibility Study. There will also be an educational component of these installations as each school will have an online energy dashboard to be able to track how much energy is being generated on a regular basis, and there will be related educational materials provided to support teachers at these schools.
This project is being funded by PGE through its own renewable energy funds as well as Energy Trust of Oregon funds and will be installed on PPS facility roofs through a multi-year lease agreement. While PGE is managing this project, PPS has ensured that the design and installation of this new solar system is consistent with District standards and is properly coordinated with individual school staff and programs. PPS has also worked with PGE to minimize any impacts on summer programs at these schools.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this new project. We are excited by the prospect of having new solar panels on these school roofs and we hope you are excited as well by the educational opportunities that they will bring to each these schools.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.”
