A Message from the Principal

Well, I am sure that you have read in the papers or seen on the news that there are some interesting things going on in Portland Public Schools regarding the school budget.  At this point in time I cannot share any information with you regarding the impact to Jackson but I hope to provide you with a broad picture at the PTA meeting this month.  What I can tell you is that there are a lot of people working on the issue and it will have a broad impact on people in the district as well as in the city.  So stay tuned for the soap opera that we call, Budgeting and Staffing in 2012.

On another note, next Wednesday is our 2nd annual RAT (Run for Arts and Technology) Race.  This event helps us to pay for our annual Multicultural Day as well as adding to our building technology.  Last year we brought in a little over $11,000 which was fantastic but this year we are trying to beat that number.  And as a little extra incentive, Mr. Walker has done a little “throw down” to the rest of the school saying that his class will raise the most money for this event.  Let the best class win!

Finally, I am looking for two or three parents who are willing to work on a year long committee addressing the issues of parent involvement here at Jackson.  We do a pretty good job of getting many parents in but there are some major groups that we do not see very often.  Our first meeting will be on May 14th at 4:00.  Please let me know if you are interested.

Have a great weekend!

John Ferraro
