Two-hour late opening, Wednesday, April 16

Wednesday, April 16 is a two-hour late opening for most elementary, K-8 and middle schools; classes commence two hours later than usual.  The following schools are closed a full day: Chavez, George, King, Lane, Rigler, Rosa Parks, Scott, Sitton, Vernon, Whitman and Woodmere. High schools are on normal schedule and not impacted by this professional development day.

Parents raise record amount for schools

April 17, 2014

The PPS parent community continues to fill gaps and break records with their fundraising, illuminating the countless volunteer hours spent by PPS parents in support of the entire district. In 2012-13, PPS parents raised a record $4.1 million. One-third of all monies raised by parents is set aside in the Portland Public Schools Foundation (PPSF) Equity Fund.

Milken Foundation Co-Founder Mike Milken surprised Robert Gray Middle School math teacher Teresa Chan Seidel with the national Milken Educator Award April 15 amid a jubilant all-school assembly. Called the "Oscar of Teaching," the award includes a $25,000 prize.
