PROFESSIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

2007 – Present Principal, Hosford Middle School, Portland Public Schools (PPS)
Under my direction:
Lead school-based team in Nike sponsored Portland Leadership Collaborative (PLC)
Recognized by ODE as only one of six middle schools for closing the achievement gap with our Hispanic students
MHCRC Grant – secured $125,000 from the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission to fund the Hosford Language Lab Project.

2001 – 2007 Associate Principal, Thomas Fowler Middle School, Tigard-Tualatin Schools
Developed a school-wide behavior management plan (PBS) that reduced behavioral referrals by as much as 40% during a time when the school’s poverty rate increased by more than three-fold.
Provided leadership in the development and implementation of a literacy-based advisory curriculum.
Provided critical leadership that moved Fowler into smaller learning environments.

2000 – 2001 Principal, Jefferson High School, PPS
Under my direction:
1. PPS satisfaction surveys showed:
• 86% of parents, 81% of students and 89% of staff felt the principal and other staff do a good job of running the school.
• 89% of staff felt the principal is a strong leader, especially in curriculum and instruction.
• 96% of staff responded as being satisfied with their relationship with the school principal.
2. Test data continued to show that the students who were with us their entire freshman and sophomore years (clear and intact) made test gains above the average of students at all other Portland high schools.
3. We secured over $30,000 in planning grants, and an additional $10,000 with the Carnegie grant through the Portland Public Schools Foundation. With these funds, our oversight team began to look deeply at how we were organized, and to rethink how we served students.
4. We unveiled a site-based governance plan to meaningfully involve students, parents, and staff in the decision-making process of the school, the first of its kind at a Portland high school.
5. Expanded the Performing Arts Magnet Program (Jefferson Dancers) to include more full-time students.

1997 – 2000 Administrative/ Curriculum Vice-Principal, Jefferson High School, PPS
Supervised the Health Science Bio-technology Magnet Program.
Assumed direct responsibility for the curriculum offered at the school.
Coordinated the annual building of the master schedule and forecasting process.
Coordinated school discipline procedures throughout the student body.
Supervised athletics, student activities, and counseling.
