Cómo Nos Puede Ayudar/How You Can Help Us
- Fundraising: grant-writing www.donorschoose.com (materials, artists-in-residence, field trips);
- During their culture unit on South America the students study the animals of Latin and South America, ie Alpacas and Llamas and they can bring in their animals to present for pet day. Everyone loves meeting the alpacas and learning about all of the uses for their wool. Help with organizing this event is essential.
- Materials:
- Spanish language games (ex. Scrabble, Verbulario)
- Videos in Spanish
- Books
- Art supplies (colored pencils, scissors, tape, markers, crayons)
- For 7th and 8th grade: Ensure students are engaged in reading for 100 minutes --- in Spanish a week. 20 of these minutes are read in class on the first day of the school week so please make sure they have their lit books (of their choice).
- For 6th grade: Help participate in a cultural exchange kit of a stuffed animal “Hosford Husky” with his passport that will be received by Spanish speaking countries around the world and returned. Help with the packaging and mailing, and post card exchange.
- Has you or your family visited a Spanish speaking country and is willing to share your experience?
- Organizing for late Spring a “Spanish Immersion Day”- During this day, students participate in speaking and cultural activities led by teachers and native speakers for several hours on a Saturday. Students dance Zumba, Salsa and Merengue do ice breakers, and play "El Frenesí Familiar", "El Juego Loco", "Las Estrellas del Cine", "¿Quién Quiere Hacerse Millonario?", "A Ti Te Toca", y "La Carrera Asombrosa." But, watch out! If any students get caught speaking English, they are sent to the dreaded Spanish jail where they must answer questions and conjugate verbs in order to leave! After the activities, the students enjoy a delicious lunch and spend some time with their new friends speaking in Spanish. Middle School Spanish Immersion Students from Beach, East/West Sylvan and 5th graders of Atkinson will be invited.
