Hayhurst Heroes
Dear Hayhurst Neighborhood Families,
We are excited to kick off the year again with our Hayhurst Heroes program for monitoring and acknowledging characteristics of a successful learner. This year we’ve spruced it up a bit and we will honor children individually as well as schoolwide. Each month, we will focus on teaching a specific skill or characteristic, and practice the ways we might demonstrate it as citizens in the Hayhurst community.
New two-part tickets with a space for comments will be awarded to acknowledge students seen by teachers demonstrating the skill of the month. One part will go home with the child while the other part will be placed in a container for a drawing at the end of the month. Three tickets will be drawn and those students will be recognized and rewarded in each classroom by Ms. Penny, our school counselor. These students will also receive a button identifying them as Hayhurst Heroes. This year, we will keep track of all tickets awarded and set a school goal, which will be celebrated when reached.
Here is a list of the characteristics we will focus on for each month:
September: Safety (in the building as well as outside)
October: Respect (for adults and peers)
November: Gratitude (remembering to say please and thank you)
December: Responsibility (completing work, returning paperwork/materials)
January: Organization/Work habits (neat and tidy work spaces, on task behavior)
February: Friendship/Caring (kind words and acts)
March: Cooperation (willingness to work for the good of all)
April: Effort/Resourcefulness (doing your best)
May: Flexibility/Reflectiveness (going with the flow/thinking about it)
June: Common Sense (doing the right thing)
Please reinforce the skill or characteristic of the month with your child at home and on outings in the community.
Thank you,
Hayhurst Neighborhood School Staff
