Spelling List
Entire Year of Spelling for Every Unit in .doc format:
Spelling research shows that children learn how to spell words correctly by “visualizing” them in their minds and not by simply copying them over and over again. So we need to help our kids by teaching the Visualization Technique.
Poor visual memory or difficulty in making a mental picture of a series of letters in a word can be improved by a weekly approach to studying the spelling words.
Weekly Spelling Program
Monday: A new list of spelling words comes home. Parents should give your child a pre-test on the words by:
- Simply say the word in a sentence for you child to write down.
- Have your child correct the pre-test.
- Study only the words they missed.
- Write a sentence for each word from the weeks list and return on Tuesday morning.
Tuesday:
- Have the child say the word while looking at it.
- Tell him/her to close their eyes and “see” the word, then spell it out loud.
Wednesday:
- Have them look at the written word to see if they have spelled it out loud correctly.
- Ask them to look at the word, then cover the word and then have them write it.
Thursday:
- Once your child has learned to use this technique they will be able to study their spelling on all the words.
