All 8th graders currently taking Algebra need to take this assessment.  If the test has not been administered at your school, please come.  The test should take under an hour.<br />

We are very pleased to announce that, as a result of increased district funding to high schools, we have been able to both lower existing class sizes and offer additional courses for the 2013-2014 school year. In addition,
we are now able to loosen the restrictions on students enrolling in more than 3 AP/dual-credit classes. Students are now able to forecast for up to four AP/dual-credit classes for the 2013-2014 school year.
All Grant students recently received verification forms, listing courses for which they had already forecast, and providing course descriptions for the new course offerings.<br />
<br />
If your student is interested in adding one of the new classes to his/her schedule, s/he will need a parent signature on the verification form. As with all courses, some may be more popular than others, and forecasting does not guarantee that students will be able to enroll in every class they have selected, but we will place as many students into each course as possible. Students are able to drop in to see counselors any day this week (their last opportunity will be this Friday, May 24th), to meet with counselors regarding course additions. Additional specific instructions are on the verification form your student received. <br />

New courses available include:<br />
Robotics &amp; Coding, Computer Programming, Hip-Hop Dance, Sculpture, Printmaking, Women in the Arts, and Dual-Credit Anatomy &amp; Physiology.<br />
Students are able to enroll in up to eight classes and take more than one course in a given subject area (science, math, etc.).  Please contact your counselor/your student's counselor if you have any questions.<br />

We are also excited to be able to announce that the district reallocation of additional funds to high schools for 2013-2014 means that we are able to offer the opportunity for incoming freshmen to take up to eight classes.<br />
<br />
As we build the schedule, counselors will use the first choice elective listed on the forecasting sheet as the students' eighth class choice. As is always true with building schedules, some classes may be more frequently requested than others, and there is a capacity limit on individual classes. We will place as many students into available electives as space will allow. Counselors will be able to assist with any questions you may have about individual student schedules after incoming freshmen receive schedules and counselor assignments in August.<br />

<span style="font-size: 10pt;" size="2"><strong>We must have more community donations in order to maintain the classes we have this year.</strong><br />
<br />
As you may be aware, the school budget scenario for next year is grim. While the current school budget represents a more stable level of funding, even with <strong>the recent changes the current level of school funding does not prevent teacher cuts at Grant</strong>, it only means cutting fewer staff. Seniority rules mean that our newest teachers are often the most vulnerable, including;<br />
<strong>Jeremy Reinholt</strong>, our rising new Constitution Team teacher<br />
<strong>John Eiseman</strong>, our new and fantastic Choir teacher<br />
<strong>Kate Brandy</strong>, who is an amazing sophomore English teacher<br />
and others.
Foundation donations mean we can keep these fabulous teachers in their programs.<br />
<br />
Grant High School needs a minimum of $250 - $500 per family to keep teachers next year. Of course, not everyone can give at that level, so we hope that those who are able to will give more than that. So far this year, we have raised $135,000, out of our goal of $250,000. <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Now we need everyone to pitch in and give as generously as they can by June 1.</strong></span> If you have employer match through your work, give that way too.<br />

<strong>Current and future Grant High School parents have various concerns about what is going to happen with the voter-approved bond monies here at Grant.&nbsp; The following are some of the projected dates for when these changes will occur.</strong><br />
</span>
<span style="font-size: 11px;">
<ul>
    <li>
    Grant High School design activities are currently expected to begin in the summer of 2015.  Design is a total of about 17 months, but it is the first 7 months where the entire community will be asked to participate in design workshops.</li>
    <li>
    Grant High School modernization construction will begin June 2017 and be completed by September 2019.
    </li>
    <li>
    If your child is going to be a freshman in September 2013, your child will graduate from Grant High School at 2245 NE 36th Avenue in June 2017.
    </li>
    <li>
    If your child is going to be a freshman in September 2014, 2015 or 2016, your child will begin high school at Grant High School's current location, but begin their 2017-2018 school year at the interim site, which has yet to be determined. There will be a public conversation about interim site options during the early stages of the design activities.  The interim site will be called Grant High School while Grant students are in attendance.
    </li>
    <li>
    If your child is in the graduating class of 2018 or 2019, your child will complete their high school career at the interim location, which will be called Grant High School while your child is in attendance.
    </li>
    <li>
    If your child is in the graduating class of 2020 or beyond, your child will graduate from the fully modernized Grant High School at 2245 NE 36th Avenue.

Any plans for Saturday, April 20th?  Want to have great food, a good time AND help Grant High School create more teaching positions for the 2013-14 school year?<br />

Come to one of our Grant Foundation House Parties!  The house parties are a great example of how our community acts locally (in their own living rooms!) to help our students have more teachers and courses to choose from.  We have 15 families who have volunteered to host these parties and I hope to see you attend at least one.<br />
<br />
This is the largest fundraising event of this kind of the year.  Last year we raised over $175,000!  I cannot stress enough how crucial these funds will be for next year.  Even if we reach our goal of raising $250,000, it will not compensate for all the years of cuts – but it will make an enormous difference!  Help make that difference.  It’s only something that can be done if everyone pitches in.<br />

In addition to knowing that you will have a good time and be in a position to join with neighbors, alumni and faculty to help our school, you will also have a great reply when you go shopping that morning and the check out person asks, “Do you have any interesting plans for the weekend?”  See you at the party!<br />
