Glencoe 3rd-5th graders meet and exceed benchmark in reading at 91%. Sixty percent of third graders last year exceeded the reading benchmark. In math, the 3rd-5th graders continue to meet and exceed in very high numbers - 93%. This level of achievement is consistent at Glencoe due to the combination of excellent instruction and strong family support. Our attendance rate remains steady at 94%.

    I am proud of our Outstanding designation on the state report card but Glencoe is outstanding for many reasons. Our parent community brings high quality, consistent art into our school through fundraising and volunteering. Our annual Run for the Arts jog-a-thon is a school wide celebration and raises money to hire an array of artists and performers to work with students and teachers.

    Art Infusion is a parent run program that trains volunteers to prepare and lead art lessons in the classroom. These lessons inspire children to create beautiful works of art that are displayed at our annual Art Show (May 19th).

    Glencoe is also outstanding due to our Oregon Premier Green School status. The school community takes recycling and conservation seriously. Our school was recently highlighted in an issue of the PPS Resource Conservation Newsletter for our wide spread recycling efforts (see "Glencoe Makes the News" below). For the month of September our electricity use was down 17%! Students and families are enthusiastic about Bike and Walk to School activities.

    We are also outstanding because of the high level of collegiality and professionalism exhibited by the Glencoe staff. It allows us to focus on teaching and learning. The teachers at Glencoe are consistently working to improve and adjust their curriculum and classroom practices. They are also a group of leaders. They serve on district committees and lead workshops for other teachers.

    There are many, many more ways we are an Outstanding school. I feel fortunate every day to work with our families, students, teachers and staff.
