Music at Glencoe K-5

5th graders perform for their Grandparents & Special Friends.

A little about me...  I got my BA in music education at Columbia Christian College (which is no longer in existence).  I took my Orff-Schulwerk training in Santa Cruz.  My music program at Glencoe incorporates primarily the Orff technique and I add in some solfege (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So , La, Ti, Do)

My goal is to include all students in the joy of making and creating music through rhythm, song, percussion instruments, dance and improvisation.  I run a quick moving class and expect all students to enter with a good attitude and be willing to try new things, always doing their personal best.

RECORDERS-----RECORDERS-----RECORDERS-----RECORDERS-----RECORDERS-----RECORDERS-----RECORDERS-----RECORDERS----RECORDERS---

All 3rd, 4th & 5th graders will start recorders starting January 2012.  Your child may borrow a school instrument or bring in his/her own instrument on music day.  I have about 25 soprano recorders available for purchase at Glencoe.  They are slightly used and were donated by a Glencoe friend.  I am selling them as a music fundraiser for $5.  Plastic recorders can be put in the top rack of the dishwasher for a safe cleaning.  These recorders will be sold on a first come, first served basis.  I am selling them after school starting now.  You can also purchase them at music stores such as Portland Music.

Those students who do not have their own instrument will be using a clean instrument for the duration of the music period.  They will not be going home to practice.

We will be working on playing techniques, reading music notes and playing together as a group.

10-21-11  5th graders performed for their Grandparents and Special Friends!  They were wonderful!

Our 5th graders have  continued to welcome students to the Friday Morning Meeting every week.  They are amazing!

9-16-11 Our first all school Friday Morning Assembly!  The fifth graders sang a two part song to Welcome the other students to our first assembly.  They did a fantastic job.
