This will be Lisa's 22nd year teaching with Portland Public Schools. Before teaching at Glencoe, she was a music teacher for 6 years in Portland Public Schools. Since coming to Glencoe, she has taught a blended first/second classroom, a straight first grade and now a straight second grade.

This year will be her first year teaching kindergarten.  Teaching a half day kindergarten class in the morning in room 110 followed by an afternoon next door in room 111 teaching music K-5 for all Glencoe students!

Check out math resources for family fun!

2-22-12  Thank you to our Art Infusion parents who helped out today and delivered a fabulous still life lesson.  The wonderful art is in the hallway now!

We are working on the letter Ff this week and the sound it makes.  Please review with your child the work that went home today!

2-21-12 We worked on whales in math today.  Students practiced making whales.  We talked about the two different kinds of whales: baleen and toothed whales.  I also sent home a paper that shows different things that whales do in the water.  Then, we started creating our own whales using paper and crayons.  We worked together to create their stories and begin to get them done on paper.

These math stories take a lot of time to create, but the time is VERY valuable.  By creating their own stories, our students are internalizing the idea of math stories and what is being asked when they hear a math story problem.  This is vital to solving other people's story problems.  We will be solving each other's work later.

Since the process is so labor and time intensive, we have not started our story of the week.  In fact, I did not send home a Family Times because we are still working on the one from last week.  No letter went home today.  Just the whale information.  We are covering a lot of skill work that crosses over to reading and writing during this math story work!

We have Art Infusion tomorrow.  Janele is leading the project, but I think she might need some more help!

2-16-12  We focused on sharks today for our math stories.  Students practiced making sharks and we assembled backgrounds and will had the story/question part tomorrow.  Start looking for them in the hallways.  Tomorrow we will also focus our art on seals.

Our calendar pieces this month are 3-D shapes!  Cubes, cylinders, cones and spheres are all around us everyday!  Encourage your child to look for them throughout the day!

2-14-12  I've been locked out of my webpage...but I'm back now.

Your children did a wonderful job using their manners and being kind to each other today during the party.  Thank you for making sure they had Valentine's Day cards for everyone!  Special thanks to Clio, Josiah, Isaiah and Amelia for bringing in treats for the class to enjoy!

We go to special classes listed here and on the calendar:

TUESDAY:  Counselor 8:30-9:00

WEDNESDAY:  Music (If time, I will take them next door since I am the music teacher)

THURSDAY:  Library 9:05-9:35

FRIDAY:  P.E. 9:05-9:35

Sometimes I send out extra information emails to families that are in my email address book. Make sure you send me your email address so that you, too, may be part of this group!

Download high frequency/ sight words to practice at home HERE

I have a class note that goes home (almost always) on Mondays, or the first day of the week. It includes the spelling words, high-frequency words and the upcoming events. I also try to include some information regarding the math or reading program.
